New Pope, New Woes

The fact that the new Pope has come under such scrutiny for his role during the military dictatorship in Argentina from 1976 through 1983 is very unfortunate for the Church at a time when it tries desperately to clean up its image from the financial and pedophile scandals. Electing someone with a dubious past is not a wise decision, because it opens a new can of worms that just won't go away.

One has to wonder, was there no other cardinal with a "clean bill of health", that would save the Church from all this embarrassment and grief? Apparently not.
