Surprise, surprise! A major study of the American military has found that serious mental health problems are much more prevalent in its ranks than in the general population in the United States. It isn't just that those who go to war come back troubled -- which is understandable -- but the fact that about half of the recruits are emotionally or mentally disturbed, to begin with. This explains why, once they're under the stress of military service, they "go ballistic." Literally.
