Four Tin Stars

Contrary to all that propaganda, the U.S. military is just as bad and corrupt as the rest of American society. Case in point: a four-star general assigned to lead troops in Africa until recently is being investigated for misusing public funds, overcharging for expenses and all kinds of improper use of money allocated to his command post. Although he has since been relieved of his duties there, he continues to be in the military, pending the investigation. It is still uncertain if he will be demoted to a two-star rank or criminal charges be brought against him.

The mere possibility that he will be allowed to retire at a lower rank and not be prosecuted shows just what the problem is. People in high places, basically, get away with things that the rest of us would pay dearly for. This is why time after time, especially where money is concerned, there is an incentive to be dishonest in its handling.
