Mon Dieu, Depardieu!

Although one can sympathize somewhat with the French upper class over the 75% wealth tax being extreme,  running away from the country, as Gerard Depardieu has done, is also extreme. Actively seeking another citizenship just to avoid paying taxes is unseemly and pathetic. By the same token, publicly offering a citizenship of another country as a tax haven, as Russia has done, is also outrageous, and does very little to promote a good relationship within the international community. Although this is not the first time that wealthy people have chosen to leave their countries or take up another citizenship for tax purposes, it is certainly the most blatant or crude way of going about it.

It's a shame that such a distinguished and admired artist such as Depardieu has behaved this way.
