AssassiNation

Since Obama saw fit to start the 50th anniversary observation of JFK's assassination two days early, I'll follow suit.

Kennedy's killing in 1963 has been portrayed as something that shocked the world. But, really, given the American track record of violence against the President and other public officials up to that time, was it so surprising? What was surprising was that it hadn't happened in a rather long time, not that it was an unheard- of event. The U.S. has a long history of violence, political and otherwise, and there haven't been more dead presidents because the would-be assassins have been very poor marksmen and women.
