Fidel to the Finish

My father used to say that, when you get to a certain age, you don't get your picture taken or go on TV: the ravages of time are not to be shown off. Maybe this is what's behind Fidel's disappearing act for the last 12 months, something that, once again, has fueled the speculation that he is dead. That and the fact that a namesake of his in Africa -- no doubt named in his honor --  has died. This time, though, there was very little interest in "Little Havana" in Miami, where most of his enemies-in-exile have lived...and died.

As an expert on Cuba has admitted: "Now, I think that people are beginning to accept that Fidel has won." On all counts, I might add.

Just ask Obama.
