A "New" Failure

If we are to believe Obama, in that the "new" mission in Afghanistan is to turn the country over to its people, then it's going to take a long time and the outcome is quite uncertain.  Case in point is the readiness of the Afghan army, which is plagued by desertions, drug addiction and illiteracy.  If these are the people who are going to fight the Taliban primarily, then we might as well forget about "peace in our lifetime."  Training by the U.S. forces doesn't seem to have gone very well, and the prospects of an improved situation in that regard are slim, at best.

So, the "new" mission is as much a failure as the "old" one.
