A Mandela Closer to Home
As Obama reflects on Mandela's life and what it has meant to him and the rest of the world, he should ask himself: What would Mandela have done with the petition for executive clemency by Oscar López Rivera, the Puerto Rican political prisoner who has now been 32 years in jail for the same "crime" that Mandela was convicted of ?
Obama's words on Mandela ring hollow, as he continues to refuse to do Oscar justice.

Well said Alberto, again ! Let me say this about Obama: When he was elected in 2008, I wasn't particularly thrilled, even though he was the first "African-American" President and all that stuff. Why? Because I already knew that he would not be calling the shots; that no President really calls the shots anyway; and that they know that going in.
ReplyDeleteIn 2008, my attitude was one of "let's see what happens," but I was in a position of not being prone to feelings of disappointment. Indeed, Obama has not disappointed me at all. He has merely validated my notions of what is the true nature of the American Presidency.
