«The Only Good Indian...»

Even if all the allegations against her turn out to be true, the arrest and processing of the Indian diplomat in the U.S. seems a bit extreme. People are allowed to turn themselves in all the time. Putting her in jail after being strip-searched looks like a deliberate decision to humiliate a woman from a culture that is extremely sensitive to something like this. Although the charges against her are indeed serious, they are not violence-related, and, anyway, she is presumed innocent.

As it stands, law enforcement in this case seems to have put on an ill-advised show-of-force that has produced an enormous backlash in India.

One is tempted to say that Americans have treated this Indian as they treat their own Indians.
