"Take Our Word For It."
It has only taken a letter from the U.S. Department of Justice to the Spanish courts, to get them to drop cases brought by Spanish citizens for abuses against them as detainees of the so-called war on terrorism, and refer the matter to the American authorities. The letter assures the Spanish officials that the U.S. will take care of it, citing a handful of cases and referring to others who are on-going but can't be discussed publicly. Of course, the letter admits that nothing was done about the two U.S. Department of Justice lawyers who concocted the legal framework that made torture acceptable during the Bush years, nor about the individuals who destroyed videotapes of interrogations deemed abusive. And yet, the U.S. asks to be trusted to do the right thing in this matter.
Cojones!
